Review: Skinfood Aloe BB Cream SPF20/PA+

From www.skinfood.com.sg:
A skin-care and make-up in one, this cream leaves your skin feeling moisturized while it corrects your skin tone. Your complexion looks naturally air-brushed, clear and fresh! Rich with aloe, it excellently soothes skin and provides moisture. Also contains SPF 20!

My Skin Type:
Actually very oily, but surpressed with BHA exfoliator. Results in generally ranging from very dry to normal/dry skin. Generally dehydrated, very sensitive, and acne prone.

My Skin Tone:
Some said I have very fair, Casper-ish complexion. Frankly speaking, that’s what you see in my FOTDs, but I personally think I look (much) darker in person than in those photos. Still, yes, I’m quite fair.

Bottomline: my skintone range is lighter than MAC NC/NW15 to NC/NW20.

I have neutral cool undertone.

Packaging:
Portable, easy to use plastic.

Color Selection:
Only 2 colors available. They said #1 is lighter and more yellow toned. #2 is darker and pink toned. I purchased this in #1.

Texture:
Like most BB cream, this is thick!

Coverage:
Rather medium. Doesn’t cover all my sins, but it’s not super sheer either.

Blendability:
Not the best, considering its thick texture. You may be tempted to tug your skin in your effort to even it out, but for the love of all things that is Holy, please avoid that.

Good news is it’s spreadable on top of sunscreen or good primer. Just try tapping and blending it gently.

Finish:
Matte!

Oil Control:
Good. Or should I say, great? Because I used this when I was dry, and it dried the heck out of me. I was like a wrinkly prune.

Sun Protection:
Can’t say much how high, since no active ingredients percentage listed. If you trust Skinfood (and KFDA, as Skinfood is quite a big name there in Korea), then it provides some broad spectrum UV protection.

To my standard, PA+ gives very low UVA protection though. Since I only use a little of this on top of my usual sunscreen, then I only expect it to prevent itself diluting my sunscreen. So I’ll just accept it as it is. I won’t recommend you to use this product as your sole sunscreen though.

My General Review:
I own 3 BB cream from Skinfood, and for me, this is the least favorite. I usually have normal/dry to very dry skin, so I bought this just to complete my collection :P At that time only 3 bb creams are available from Skinfood: Gingko, Aloe, and Mushroom.

What turns me off so badly is the color. #1 is pretty light, but very yellow on me. I don’t like how it makes me look a bit sallow. And the oil control is great, so I can’t really use it. I tried it on my dry days, and it really sucks the moisture out of me, geez.

In the end I sold this before my skin turned oilier again. For those days, I much prefer BRTC Perfect Recover BB Cream. More balanced color, and oil control is good. And I think BRTC have better ingredients than Skinfood. This Aloe BB cream is filled by silicones, lots of them! I don’t see skincare ingredients in there, but somehow some people really feels its healing properties.

Each to their own, I guess.

What Else You Need To Know:
At the moment, Skinfood has 4 other BB cream: Gingko, Mushroom, Agave, and Peach Sake.

Skinfood released Gingko BB cream first, then Aloe and Mushroom followed Gingko at the same time. Both Agave and Peach Sake are newer than Aloe.

Every Skinfood BB cream comes in 2 color: #1 and #2. But the color is not standard in every type of product. For example, Aloe #1 is very yellow on me. Gingko #1 is more neutral-yellow compared to Aloe #1, and Mushroom #1 have very strong pink undertone.

Application:
I use this on top of skincare and sunscreen, just like a tinted moisturizer. I always use moisturizer, even though BB cream claims to be a skincare product.

Price:
I don’t remember it exactly, but it should be around IDR200,000.

Availability:
You can get it at Skinfood’s store, like in Senayan City or Taman Anggrek Mall.

Ingredients:
Water, Cyclomethicone, Titanium Dioxide, Triethoxycaprylysilane, Cetyl PEG, PPG-10, 1 Dimethicone, 1,3-Butylene Glycol, Micro Particle Titanium Dioxide, Aluminium Hydroxide, Stearic Acid, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Polymethylmethacrylate, Ceresin, Boron Nitride, Sorbitan Isostearate, Dimethicone, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Sodium Chloride, Phenyl Trimethicone, Sorbitan Olivate, Silica, Vinyl Dimethicone, Methicone, Silsesquioxane Crosspolymer, Hydrated Ferric Oxide, Ferrous Ferric Oxide, Perfume (Aloe CH-5103008), Ultramarine, Methylparaben, Phenoxyethanol, Aloe Extract, Ferric Oxide, Propylparaben

Overall Rating:
3 out of 5. Color match is off, it’s thick and doesn’t really contain skincare properties. Good oil control though, and some people really benefit from its healing properties (though I don’t know where it comes from).

Try a sample if you can. For me personally, I prefer BRTC Perfect Recover BB Cream when I’m on the oilier side, but it has been discontinued.

Review: Skinfood Gingko Green BB Cream

Skinfood Gingko Green BB Cream

Skin Food Gingko Green BB Cream NO. 1, 50g,

A moisturizing base made with the essential ingredients of green tea, ginkgo leaf, Vitamin B and lecithin for nutritional benefits to the skin. Provides light coverage. Suitable for all skin types.

Packaging:
Cute plastic tube with yellow theme. Easy to use/dispense the right amount of product. Also easy to travel with.

Color Selection:
Like all BB Cream from Skinfood, it comes with 2 color choices. #1 is said to be lighter and have yellow undertone, #2 is slightly darker with pink undertone.

Mine is #1 and it does have neutral-yellow undertone. I think it’s suitable for NC20-25 skin tone.

Texture:
Slightly thick, but there is some slip.

Coverage:
Sheer. It will just even out your skin tone. I don’t get the claim that BB cream can be used as concealer.

Blendability:
Despite the thickness, it’s still easy to be spread on top of sunscreen and/or primer

Finish:
People say this has really pretty dewy glow. After application…yeah. But after setting it with matte loose powder, the glow vanished on me :(

Oil Control:
This BB cream is suitable for people with normal skin, I think. Slightly dry may be, or slightly oily. I can’t use this when I’m dry/dehydrated. And I’ve heard people with oily skin complained that the oil control is not as good as expected from a ‘blemish’ product.

If oil control is your aim and you want to try out a Skinfood BB cream, Aloe Sun BB Cream SPF20/PA+ will be more suitable for you.

My General Review:
I think what ties me to this BB cream is its nostalgic feel :P

There’s nothing to be complained with this BB cream. Texture is slightly thick but still fine. It’s not cakey. Sheer coverage. Doesn’t oxidize. But still, I can’t swear by it.

I think it’s because of the color. While it’s more neutral compared to Skinfood Aloe Sun BB Cream SPF20/PA+, it’s not brightening on my face. It’s not chalky or dark, but I don’t feel bright or polished. Maybe the neutral/yellow tone emphasizes my dullness/sallowness?

Also, many people love its dewy, glowy finish. Indeed, I bought this after I saw the pretty dewy look on CozyCot. But I’m too dry most of the time, so the glowy look vanishes after I put on loose powder :( So I prefer to use a richer moisturizer underneath, and dust a bit of glowy setting powder when I use this (Chanel Poudre Cristalline, usually) to impart a bit of glow. On me, by itself, Skinfood Mushroom BB Cream SPF20/PA+ is more glowy.

Just like its Aloe BB cream counterpart, I don’t know where it comes from. Sadly, I personally don’t get such dramatic improvement.

Yet, I can’t separate from my tube :P I don’t mind sharing it, but I have no intention to sell it :D Maybe the tube is too cute. Maybe it’s just the nostalgic feeling because it’s one of the first BB cream ever to reach our shores. Maybe it’s my wishful thinking, trying to prove to myself that I can also achieve great reduction in acne if I wear it religiously.

What Else You Need To Know:
Gingko Green BB Cream is Skinfood’s first BB cream. It’s the only one without any SPF. The other ones: Aloe, Mushroom, Agave, and Peach Sake, all have a little bit of sun protection.

Some Skinfood SA also promotes this BB cream for sensitive skin. I don’t know the basis in this recommendation though; it’s still lightly fragranced.

Well, at least I personally am very sensitive, and all Skinfood BB cream don’t give me problems.

Application:
I apply this like I would with a tinted moisturizer. After sunscreen/primer, and then set it with loose powder.

Review: BRTC Glossy BB Cream

BRTC Glossy BB Cream

BRTC Glossy BB Cream

From www.skinami.co.kr:

Feature:
This dual functioning BB cream delivers the natural plant substances effectively to the skin and improves the uneven skin tone while firming generally with the functions of whitening and wrinkle decline.

The soft and smooth BB cream presents a naturally glossy look with sparkling pearl as if the skin is filled with moisture.

Main Ingredients:
Centella Asiatica Extract, Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract, Melia Azadirachta Extract, Platycodon Grandiflorum Root Extract, Polygala Tenuifolia Root Extract, green tea extract, Allantoin, Tocopheryl Acetate

Directions for Use:
At the last stage of basic skincare, apply a proper amount of the Gold Caviar BB Cream to the whole face or the desired part evenly.

Size:
40ml

Order of use:
Perfect Protect 46 or UV White Sun Protection Balm-> One of the Perfect Protect System’s Balm’s -> Glossy BB Cream -> UV White Sun Protection Pact or BB Sun Pact

Packaging:
Portable silvery plastic tube with small opening. Hygienic, portable, and easy to dispense the right amount of product.

Color Selection:
Like most BB cream, it’s only available in 1 color, which is rather medium/dark. I think this will suit NC/NW30 and above.

I’m not sure about the undertone. It seems to me that the undertone is neutral/pink though.

Texture:
Slightly thick, but there is some slip.

Coverage:
Sheer!

Blendability:
I have no problem applying this on top of sunscreen/primer. It’s not thin, but it goes pretty smoothly :)

Finish:
Truly illuminating. It’s glowy, but not too much for me. And I’m quite shimmer-phobe.

Oil Control/Lasting Power:
At the moment I don’t have problem with excessive oilies, so it stays well.

My General Review:
The name made me run in the opposite direction. Glossy? Who would want a glossy, disco ball complexion for daily wear? Thankfully, what Korean refer to ‘Glossy’ does translate to the word ‘highlighting’ and ‘illuminating’. And yes, the finish is very similar to my highly raved Stila Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer!

Putting the color match aside, while I love Stila better in terms of texture (seems thinner and have more slip) and its built in SPF15 as an extra, BRTC Glossy campaigned that it got some skincare ingredients. I see some antioxidants like Grapefruit, Green Tea, and Vitamin E in the ad. Skin calmer too, like Allantoin. Centella asiatica for antibacterial and wound healing purposes. I don’t have the complete ingredient list to make sure they’re really in there at potential concentration, but usually BRTC BB creams do sport some impressive ingredients. Usually after use of BRTC BB creams, my skin will look brighter and more even toned. Softer to the touch too.

The main problem for me is the color match :( It’s not as fair as some of BRTC BB creams (like the old BRTC Soothing BB Cream or BRTC Jasmin Water BB Cream).  So it’s clearly much too dark for me :( I think it may be more suitable for ladies with NC/NW30 and above.

What Else You Need To Know:
From the usage direction given in BRTC’s official website, I see that they intended this stuff as a highlighter on top of other BB Cream.

It won’t work for me because of the dark color; but hey, a highlighter with some skincare properties? It does sound rather impressive to me :P

Application:
I use this like a tinted moisturizer. After moisturizer and sunscreen, I’ll just pat it in using fingers and blend with a cosmetic sponge.

Price:
KRW39,000 for 40ml. Sounds quite expensive! Even higher price point than the BRTC Jasmin Water BB Cream.

Availability:
Not available directly in Indonesia. I usually order directly to Korea, but some selection of BRTC product is available at Watsons Singapore.

Ingredients:
No full ingredient list written in the box :( At least one in English.

Overall Rating:
4 out of 5. This has the potential, but the color match is all wrong for me. Personally, I prefer Stila Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer SPF15 for this kind of effect, but if you have medium/deep skin tone and love glowy look, I recommend this product!

Packaging:
Easy to transport, hygienic tube.

Color Selection:
Only a color available. I personally think it’ll best match NC20 to NC30.

Texture:
Light and pleasant. It’s not thick or balmy. It’s rather thin with a good amount of slip.

Coverage:
Sheer! It’ll just even out your skin tone.

Blendability:
Good! It blends effortlessly without caking up.

Finish:
Glowy.

Oil Control/Lasting Power:
I have rather dry skin so I don’t really know its oil control. I don’t have problem with its lasting power either.

My General Review:
Fuzkittie have this on her high regard, so I need to try it :D The color is scary mud looking, of course, but I still have my hopes up since it works for Fuz. But not for me, apparently! :( It’s clearly too dark for me, as I was testing this when I’m on my fairer side. I personally think it’ll be best for NC20 and above ladies.

Everything else about it is great though. The texture is very nice and is rather thin. Very easy to blend. Sheer coverage only, so don’t expect it’ll cover up your major skin woes.

Unfortunately, due to the bad color match problem, I can’t try this out quite long to test if it really have a healing properties. But at least, I think despite the claim, this product doesn’t contain any sun protection ability. No UV filter written anywhere in the ingredient list, no SPF rating either.

What Else You Need To Know:
Fuz compares this product with BRTC Whitening/Wrinkle Repair BB Cream, which I’ve also tested but haven’t write review of. Just know that I prefer BRTC, it’s a better match with my skintone.

Weird, eh? As both turns into same color with Fuz! :D

For a BB cream with texture as light as L’egere White Multi but with much better color match on me, I prefer Skin79 Diamond BB Cream. Now that one totally works on me!

Application:
Pretty standard, I use this after moisturizer and/or sunscreen. I always set it with loose powder.

Price:
I don’t know about its retail price in Taiwan, but I supposed it’s not so expensive. It’s around US to US in eBay, which I guess is already marked up.

Availability:
Not available in Indonesia, I think? Anya still have one on her blog sale though :) Or you can always try eBay.

Ingredients:
Arbutin, Cyclomethicone, Jojoba oil, Polyglceyl-4 Isoterate, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1Dimethicone, Bees Wax, Tocopheryl acetate, Propyl Parabem,Sorbita sesquioleate, Petrolatum, Titanium oxides, Cyslopentasiloxane, Iron Oxides / Dimethicone, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Magnesium Sulfate, Methyl Paraben, Sodium Hyaluronate, Marine Collagen, Rose Water, Centella Asiatica.

I’m not sure if the list is valid….as in, is it possible for this cream to be Arbutin-based? It’s even higher up than Cyclomethicone (which is a form of silicone, CMIIW).

Overall Rating:
5 out of 5. Great texture, sheer coverage. This really has potential, and it really looks great on Fuz :) But I personally can”t use it, the color is much too dark for me.

BB Cream

The BB Cream, aka Blemish Balm, is *the* hottest beauty product in Asia right now. The product was originated in Germany and used by dermatologists to help patients who have gone through laser skin surgery soothe and regenerate the skin.
Soon after, Korean celebs started using the cream and a craze was born. Big companies then took the idea and turned it into a product widely available to the public. The new product is suitable for all skin types, especially those with sensitive and acne-prone skin. It has the advantages of both a makeup and skincare product. It can even out skintone, camouflage undereye circles, acne scars and add radiance to the skin without the heavy mask-like effects of a foundation. Prolonged used of the product will also help improve the overall texture of the skin and fade acne scars.
