LightStim: Week 4 & 5 & 6

Unfortunately, I have been busy for the past couple of weeks that I forgot to take pictures. As seen from my week 3 picture, the monthly cycle has been wrecking havoc on my skin again (always have been).

There have been a couple of days where I was too tired/busy to do the treatment, and my skin gets a couple more sore spots the next day. But when I go back on the treatment that very night, the sore spots subside.

I’m still undecided on whether it helps my hormonal acne or not since the light treatment doesn’t seem to have much effect on helping me control the spots. It does help when the spots emerge though.

I’ve also been to a chinese physician lately for my gastritis problem and she says that the digestive system does have an effect on skin. So I’m currently taking some medicine for my gastric and hopefully it does have a positive side effect on my skin as well.

Question!

What are your beauty weaknesses? For me, I can’t stop looking at pimple gels and moisturizers (because my skin gets so flaky due to the prescribed gels for my acne). I also like to switch brands whenever I have a product that’s finishing soon… not so good for my sensitive skin!

Ingredients: (active ingredients) Meadow Foam Oil, Green Tea Catechin Oil, Rosehip Oil

Description: Makeup removal is now blissfully easy with FANCL MILD CLEANSING OIL. This powerful formulation now comes enriched with Meadow Foam Oil which aids the removal of keratin plugs over time for a clearer, smoother complexion.

Review: This has got to be my favourite cleansing oil, ever. I have strayed and tried other brands (such as Softymo, Neutrogena) but Fancl is still the best I have ever used. I particularly like the texture – it’s thick and cushiony, almost like marshmallows on your skin. It glides on skin easily without creating a drippy mess, unlike those cleansing oils that are on the thin side. It is also formulated without alcohol and fragrance- very important factors to me. Fancl MCO rinses clean and easily so you’ll never have to worry that there is still oil residue on your face.

Here’s how to use it properly:
1) apply sufficient oil to face (roughly 2 pumps) and massage away makeup. The oil is safe enough to go over your eye area as well. You’ll see the makeup melting away. When you have massaged properly, go to Step 2.
2) Add water bit by bit to your face. You’ll feel the oil thinning out and emulsifying. I usually just run my hands under the tap quickly and emulsify the oil part by part (cheeks first, followed by eye area, chin then forehead).
3) Make sure oil is properly emulsified before rinsing off. (There shouldn’t be any more ‘cushiony and thick’ oil feel. If there is, add more water to emulsify)

Getting free samples

What are your thoughts on companies that put up “free samples” on their site, but when details are submitted, samples are never sent to you? How long will you wait before saying that they’re duds?

Personally, I really dislike such act. I think, at the very least, the company should email or contact those who have submitted their details in hope for samples to inform them if the samples have run out and unfortunately, those consumers will not be receiving samples. It is worse if you did not receive the said samples, but yet keep receiving their email blasts instead. Woah… real low way of collecting consumer data there!

Recycling

I’m sure many of us are huge on buying magazines, be it gossip, fashion or beauty. But what do you do when the new issue comes out? Do you discard the old issue or keep them?

I bought tons of magazines in my younger days, especially those pop music magazines (I was crazy over those boybands and aimed to collect all their posters! LOL) and it got to a point whereby I simply had no more space for the magazines. I ended up tearing out just the posters and threw away the remaining parts of the magazine. But in the end, those posters were just kept in my cupboard, only to be thrown away a few years later.

I’m now pretty much into just one magazine – Women’s Weekly, because of its affordability! But even then, I’m still looking for ways to recycle them. I think throwing them away is quite a waste especially if they are still in good condition. How about a magazine exchange? Anyone thinks that will work out?

Ingredients: (active ingredients) Moisture Retaining Amino Acid Cleansing Agent, Polyamino Acid, Amino Acid (Serine)

Description: Facial Washing Powder not only removes all impurities, gentle to your skin, its easier and faster to foam, creamier and denser than ever. Read more

Review: I’ve always thought washing powders (for face) were a hassle to use. I usually wash my face while in the shower and we all know that we have to keep the powders out of the shower to prevent clumping. But for the sake of beauty, I sacrificed that little bit of convenience. Then came the problem of knowing how to create foam properly. Luckily I kept the foaming ball – it was really easy to get a lot of foam with the unique foaming ball. I’ve also tried creating foam from soap using the ball and it works!

Anyway, though the normal Washing Powder is stated for normal-dry skin, I was still able to use it though I had normal-oily skin. I often suffer from dehydrated skin, as a result of too much air-conditioning (when I sleep at night, and in the office), so I thought the normal version would be a better fit and it was! In fact, sometimes, I think the washing powder is still a little drying for me – that’s when I alternate between my other cleansers just to give my skin a break.

Review: Follow Me O2 Renewal Gel

Item Reviewed: Follow Me UV White O2 Advanced Renewal Gel

Price/pack size: 60ml

Available at: Major retail outlets

Ingredients:

Description: Further infused with Grape Seed Extract and Retinol to enhance skin repair, collagen regeneration and keep wrinkles, acne, dull skin and blackheads away at bay.

Review: Whatever it is, even if you’re desperate to exfoliate your skin, DO NOT GET THIS PRODUCT!

Follow Me O2 Renewal Gel has got to be the worst skincare product I’ve ever purchased in 2009. It is supposed to be a gentle chemical exfoliant, something like Cure Miracle Gel and Ginvera Marvel Gel. However, it oddly felt like glue on my face and even SMELT like it.

Your face and hands must be completely dry, otherwise it is very hard to get the chemicals working to rub the dead skin cells off your skin. As my skin is pretty sensitive, I felt an immediate stinging sensation 10 seconds after I applied the gel to my face. My skin was slowly turning red and my nose hurt from the pungent alcohol/glue smell. I used it for 3 times before I gave up and used something else.

Finally, I found the best way to use up this useless product as it was taking up space on my vanity counter – to give my legs a good ’scrub down’. On my legs where skin is not sensitive, the product worked and made my legs super shiny and smooth. However, I wouldn’t buy it again. It certainly isn’t cheap enough for me to use it on my legs!
