Question: Got any suggestions to make my hair color last and last?
With this economy who doesn’t want everything to last longer? Which I guess for some would include hair color. Okay so if you want to maximize the life of your hair color follow these styling tricks.
Trick #1: Go for less dramatic highlights as this will give your hair an alluring, sun kissed, beachy feel. Even better, you can easily afford to go a couple of months between treatments with highlights like this.
Trick #2: Don’t overlook the conditioning when coloring. And you need to condition twice. Both before the color session and then about a week later. The second one with calm down your cuticles and boost the new hue. But do so subtly.
Trick #3: Try not to use volumizing products any more than you have to. These can sometimes strip the color. Instead use color enhancing shampoos to protect it and prolong it. Not only are these formulated to be gentler, these often have pigments to add color depth to your locks. And to help the color penetrate always use a wide tooth comb to work such products through your hair.
Trick #4: To avoid exposing your hair to the chemicals every time you color seriously consider root touchups only.
Trick #5:Keep your hair’s exposure to the sun to a minimum. Hats or scarves, aside from being fashion accessories, are good for that. As is applying some type of sun screen for your hair that has UV protection built in.
Trick #6: You should try to protect your hair at the pool by always donning a swimming cap. If that isn’t something you can or want to do get your hair wet before diving in so it absorbs less potentially color-altering chlorine. This will also dilute the effect of however much chlorine is does absorb.
Finally, always be gentle with your colored hair. Do take care to use a wide toothed comb to comb it out. And blot wet hair dry gently (rather than rubbing) to prevent breakage.
Well, there you have it. Seven proven tricks to help you make your color last. With these ideas you should find your color will last longer and you’ll be making fewer visits to the salon.
